My Thoughts on Intermitted Fasting

I didn’t seek out Intermitted Fasting; I discovered Intermitted Fasting and the power of fasting naturally. I’ve always been a skip breakfast guy. If I’m in the habit of eating breakfast, I will; that's how everyone is. But if I don’t have breakfast, I feel better throughout the day.

Growing up, especially around middle school and high school, when I had to get myself to the school bus on my own, I would often skip breakfast. I had no desire to eat that early in the morning. Come college, I would usually skip breakfast, but after partying all weekend, I would partake in the hangover breakfast (but even that was closer to lunchtime).

I experienced the power of fasting after a breakup. Along with my grief and heartbreak, I had lost all appetite. At first, I was worried. I was convinced I would die if I didn’t eat. I tried to force myself to eat, even if it was a single bite. But I had no desire. My body and mind rejected the idea of food. Somehow I went 9 days without eating anything. What surprised me most was that I didn’t die. I experienced the opposite.

After 4 days of no food, I felt like a superhero. I was getting very little sleep, yet I was full of energy. I set a personal record by running 4 miles at an 8 min pace. I had never had that kind of endurance before. I was able to match that pace and distance every day for my fast duration. How could I run 4 miles every day with no food in my body?

If I weren’t depressed and heartbroken from the breakup, I would have enjoyed my superpowers more than I did, but this fast made me realize I could go weeks without food and be okay—actually, more than okay. I had the highest energy levels and stamina.

Soon after my fast, I learned about water fasting and intermitted fasting practices. Everything made sense. I naturally found my way to its powers and benefits, and now, with some legitimate science, I was able to take it in stride.

Fasting has never been a diet thing for me. It’s my natural state of being. I function best when I’m intermitted fasting. And I frequently water fast. There are powers the body holds that most people never learn about.

Most people think you have to eat three meals a day. But is that the most natural way to live? Or is it because we have an abundance of food at our disposal, and corporations make more money the more we eat.

Pre-modern civilization, humans hunted during the day and feasted at night. I doubt our ancestors ever had three meals in a day. They also fasted frequently as they would have to go days without food. So it’s no wonder half of Americans are obese.

We’ve been taught that you should have three meals a day, but is that the optimal diet for us? It’s not for me. I believe fasting is a hidden superpower. We all have the ability to take advantage of it, but most of us will never know about it.

*I’m not a doctor. This is not medical advice. This is only my experience with fasting. If you’re considering fasting, please consult a professional first.

Remember, make it a great day or not; the choice is yours.
